Many herbs offer advantages for detoxifying the body of accumulated wastes that can cause harm over the long-term. Herbal cleanses have been used for ages and more is known about herbal properties and advantages in contemporary times. Herbal cleansing is a less extreme approach to detoxing the body than some other detox programs. Herbs can be used as infusions, teas, tonics, additions to foods or baths.       Relaxing in an herbal bath is as an important part of an herbal cleansing program. Calming lemon balm and lavender or chamomile is a simple, yet effective way to cleanse. Place a handful of herbs in a muslin bag or stocking. Allow the rushing water to pour over the bag. The warmth of the water raises body temperature, releasing toxins through pores, herbs cleansing as you perspire. Take an herbal bath every three or four days.

      Drink a cleansing herbal tea. Prepare a stock of two parts each red clover blossom, cleavers or bedstraw, dandelion leaf and stinging nettle, and one part sage leaf. Use 1 tsp. mixture to one cup boiling water. Steep, covered for 10 minutes, strain and drink. A tasty addition is a tsp. of ginger to the finished tea. Drink the nfusion daily.

      Hydrate. Most herbs act as diuretics and cause increased urination. Drink plenty of distilled water.

      Prepare an herb salad with the detoxifying properties of chlorophyll. Easily absorbed in the blood stream, herbal greens offer a tasty cleansing and healing option. Combine full head of leafy lettuce, one handful of fresh borage leaves, dandelion leaves, fennel flowers and chervil. Add 2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley, 1 tbsp. each of fresh basil and fresh marjoram. Keep in mind that 3 tbsp. olive oil and 1 tbsp. red or white wine vinegar make a delicious dressing.

      Investigate the cleansing properties of burdock, which purifies the blood. Understand that milk thistle is a powerful liver stimulant, with plant chemicals that protect the outer membranes of the liver and stimulate synthesis of proteins.
