Apply for a work visa. If you work for a company that has a location in Australia then see if you can work for the company over there. The company would need to apply for your visa which will be much easier for you. The visa will last about a year and you will need to apply again. After two years you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence.

Have all of your necessary paperwork with you. You will need your birth certificate, a marriage certificate if your married, school diplomas, proof of insurance, records and documentation of investments, and proof of how much money you have available in the bank so that you won't have to rely on the country to support you.

Apply for a SIR Visa which will be given to you if you agree to live in certain areas of the country. For instance, if you want to live in Australia, Melbourne or on the coast then you wouldn't be able to get the SIR Visa. This type of visa is to help encourage people to live in areas that don't have a large population. This visa will last for three years, but after two years you can apply for permanent residency.

To this eclectic mixture, add a good serve of English conservatism and combine it with a fine British-style sense of humour and self-effacement (minus the self pity). Australian people are Australia's greatest resource. They can be extremely direct (to the point of being rather offensive at times) but they are hardy, generous and very down-to-earth. It is an egalitarian society like no other - Australians are very fair minded people but don't suffer fools lightly and can smell a "phoney" from 50 kms away! Australians (un...
