Things You'll Need:
- Proper shoes
- A stiff bandage
- Tourniquets
-
Step 1
Having the proper gear is important. They make it such that you are protected under most circumstances. A lot of research goes into the designing of protective gear and you should take full advantage of it.
-
Step 2
Proper shoes are an important part of your attire to prevent injuries. They give you support in places where your ankle could turn and damage itself. Most ankle injuries happen when they turn unexpectedly.
-
Step 3
Stiff bandages wrapped around the ankles can take a lot of the impact on a fall and protect your ankles. Also they would prevent a turn in the ankle thereby protecting it from injury. Thus protective bandages are a must help in most cases. There is no such thing as protection all of the time.
-
Step 4
Plastic tourniquet type sticks can also prevent your ankle from turning too much. But you have to gain a balance between protection and performance. You do not want to not be able to ride if your legs and ankles are too stiff. There is always a risk; all we can do is, minimize it.
-
Step 5
Understand that having a cool head also helps in injury prevention. When it is apparent that an injury is about to happen a cool head can help you take the fall in such a way as to prevent some injuries. There are some things we can do if we can think calmly, because if we panic then all protection goes out the proverbial window.
-
Step 6
Falling is also an art we can learn. When a person is about to fall, there are ways to fall and you can choose which way your body is going to take the fall. Learn the right way, as breaking an ankle is not fun. You could turn that to a sprain if you know how.
-
Step 7
Dangerous sport or a lot of fun, that is to be seen. Both sides have their arguments. But what is sport if there is no risk. It is the thrill of excitement that leads us to victory. Sometimes it ends up in injury. We can only reduce the risk, not eliminate it.
