Knowing how to tie a simple loop into a rope can come in handy for anyone in a variety of activites. Whether you are tying down a load while moving or creating a hitching post for a horse, knowing how to make a loop is a skill that everyone should master.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sturdy Rope of Desired Length

    How To Make A Loop In A Rope

  1. Step 1

    Set up. Arrange the rope so it has an overlapping loop, closer to one end of the rope.

  2. Step 2

    Pull through. Pull the close end of the rope through the loop, then hold the end behind the long part of the rope.

  3. Step 3

    Bring it forward. Bring the end around to the front of the rope and pass it through the loop.

  4. Step 4

    Tighten. Pull both ends until the knot is tightened and the loop is secure.

  5. Step 5

    Position. Position the loop around a sturdy object in effort to keep in place the object that you wish to tie up.
