Choose a Zero Turn Lawn Mower

There are many benefits of choosing a zero turn lawn mower. These lawn mowers are designed to turn on a dime, leaving no spots of grass un-mowed. Not only are they hassle-free, they can also save a substantial amount of time since you need less turning to mow the same piece of lawn. There are many zero turn lawn mowers on the market, however. This article can help you decide which zero turn lawn mower is right for you.

From Quick Guide: Lawn Mower Guide
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check for roll over protection frames. This is the most important feature of a zero turn lawn mower. These lawn mowers are a bit more prone to tipping on sloped ground. Make sure it comes with a roll bar.

  2. Step 2

Ask the salesman, or check the zero turn lawn mower literature for a feature that shuts off the mower when you travel in reverse. The most lawn mower accidents occur when driving backwards.

  3. Step 3

Decide what type of steering device you would like. A typical zero turn lawn mower comes with 2 levers on either side of the drivers seat that drive the vehicle forward, left, right, and backward. This makes is impossible to do anything else with either hand, including taking a drink of water. If you are willing to spend extra money, there are certain models of zero turn lawn mowers that come with a steering wheel to drive instead.

  4. Step 4

Consider your lawn and how large it is and how high you would like to it cut. There is a zero turn lawn mower that can run up to 7mph for large lawns. It can also cut grass at a higher level than normal: 4.5 inches. These extra options, however, do cost a bit of extra money.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that you cannot even wave to neighbors when steering a zero turn lawn mower with 2 lever. You will quickly veer off into the opposite direction.
  • Don't let children play on lawn mowers. Although some think they are fun, they can be extremely dangerous.
