How to Visit the Grand Canyon

Carved by the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge in Arizona and parts of Nevada. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park, which is one of the first national parks in the United States. One of the most breathtaking and awe-inspiring sights in the United States, the park receives close to five million visitors per year from all over the world.

Instructions

Visit the canyon at various times during the day and check out as many of the vantage points as you can. Just when you think you've seen the most breathtaking view, you find another scenic overlook that will take your breath away more than the previous.

Get a good camera with lots of film or memory capacity. Every time you see the canyon from another angle or at another time of the day, odds are you'll want to take another picture.

Visit the NPS website to learn about the different Rims of the Canyon. This site can also provide you with hiking and camping information, should you be interested in experiencing the canyon on this level.

Know how hot Arizona and Nevada can get in the summer months, and plan your visit accordingly. Visiting in off seasons will cut out some of the heat, but if you choose to visit during a particularly hot time be sure to remain hydrated and take necessary breaks if hiking.
