Clean and dry your skin. You should never apply makeup of any kind to your face before it has been properly cleansed and dried. Use a cleanser that meets your skin's needs. If you have sensitive skin, look for a product that is ideal for sensitive skin. Allow your face to have time to dry.

Put a concealer on any discolorations or flaws. Many women are known for having dark circles under their eyes from lack of sleep, heredity and even stress. This is one area that looks better if covered. Some women may also want to cover discolorations, blemishes and age spots. You can buy concealer in stick or liquid formals. Apply to the area starting in the center and work your way outward.. Rub it gently into the skin with your fingertips, allowing it to melt into your skin. Your goal is to cover the area without making the presence of the concealer noticeable.

Apply a foundation to your face.Many women are choosing a foundation that does double or even triple duty. You can buy these that also sunscreen enriched, have vitamins within that will help moisturize your skin and even have a slight powdery formula to them that makes wearing powder unnecessary. Choose the foundation that meets your wants and needs. Be sure that the foundation also matches your skin tone.Remember you want the color to match in a way that you can't tell you are wearing the foundation. Once you find the foundation of your choice, apply it with a small makeup sponge or wedge like applicator in even and gentle strokes. Cotton balls can leave little trails of cotton behind with them.

Apply blush. Blush is the perfect way to accent your cheekbones. To apply, such in your cheeks. Notice the hollow area. This is the area in which you should begin to apply your blush. Take a large brush gently swipe the blush over this area. Work your way outward toward your temples. You will want to make sure that the color is well blended. Apply the medium color to the upper lid of your eye. Apply a lighter shade under your brow bone if you wish to highlight your eyes. If you wish to brighten the look of your eyes, apply the a pearly white shade to the brow bone and extend past your eye by a stroke.

Begin applying eye liner to your eyes. If you are not use to applying eyeliner, you may want to stick with the pencil formula. Liquid eyeliner is harder to use because it takes greater precision. It should never be used to line the lower part of your eye. The trick to getting your eye liner to look good is to put on evenly and not heavily. Sharpen the eye liner pencil. This will remove any bacteria that may be lying on it. Start at the inner corner of your eye and work your way outward, gently. If you wish for your eyes to appear larger, gently outline the bottom lash as well, again starting at the inner corner of your eye. As for the color of your eyeliner, this should be based on your overall skin coloring and the color of your eyes. For instance, most people with fair skin and green eyes are appealing in the look of a violet type eyeliner.

Apply mascara. This can be a tricky step. Yes, mascara is the second greatest makeup tool a woman can have. It can help open up the look of her eyes. Make sure you are applying the mascara that works for you. There are many different formals, waterproof, moisturizing, lengthening and ones that can add volume. Slowly, pull the wand out of the tube. If there is access mascara on the wand, slowly place back into the tube and pull out once more. Coat the upper lashes first. Wiggle the wand back and fourth to deposit the color. Begin at the base of the lashes and work your way upward. Now holding the want vertically, carefully apply to lower lashes. You can do this by running the wand from side to side. Correct any smudges immediately.

Apply some lipstick or lip gloss to lips. Your look is not complete without a little bit of color on your lips. This is why many women say that lipstick and lip gloss is their main makeup item of choice. Start with dry lips. If you are planning on wearing lipstick, first line your lips with a matching lip pencil. When doing this, make sure your lips are closed. If you do not have a matching lip pencil, carefully, outline them with the corner of your lipstick. Correct any smudges as they occur. Apply your lipstick by gently filling in the outline area. Some prefer to use a brush when doing this. Others still uses the lipstick directly from the tube. Blot your lips with a tissue. You can do this by gently lying a tissue on them. If you are wearing just lip gloss, skip the lining part and just apply. Correct any smudges as they occur.

Remember dark eye shadows should be applied only to your eye lids.
Purchase better quality brushes to use when applying your makeup. The ones that comes with your makeup are usually of poor quality and will not hold up well.
Never apply eyeliner or mascara before your eye shadow. The shadow will just cover them.
