Getting Started
-
1
Set up. Register with an online Pokémon game site. In general, registration will ask for your name, requested user name, date of birth and email address. Some sites also require a postal address, but it is unusual for them to require a telephone number. Currently, the two main games that are not owned by Nintendo are Pokémon Online and TPPC Online.
-
2
Get into character. Personalize your Pokémon trainer character. Most online games are more like role-playing games than turn-based card games, so you have the ability to personalize your player before you start playing.
-
3
Learn your way around. Before playing, take the time to read any available user guides, as well as looking over tips and tricks offered in forums. Make sure you understand the basics of game play before you start playing with and/or against other players.
-
4
Evaluate the game after you play a few times. If the game is not exactly what you are looking for, don’t give up playing. Find another game and try it. If you are playing a game that is in development, contact the developers with suggestions of what you would like to see included in the game.

5
Have a back-up. Find a couple of sites to play the Pokémon card game online, even if you only play one. Because Nintendo owns the intellectual rights to Pokémon, sites that infringe on their rights run the risk of being shut down. If you find a site that has been in operation for more than a year, it most likely will not be shut down by Nintendo, but it is always helpful to have a back-up.

Tips & Warnings
If you would prefer to play the Pokémon card game online in a turn-based card game format, there is a free software program, originally developed for Magic: The Gathering, which makes it possible. To play against other players, however, you will need to have their IP address.
Pokémon Battle Revolution links the Wii and the Nintendo DS, allowing you to use characters from DS games in the 3D Wii format. You can also use Wi-Fi and friend codes to battle other players in an online format.
As previously mentioned, Nintendo owns the intellectual rights to Pokémon games. Online games sites cannot charge a fee without violating Nintendo’s rights. For that reason, you should not be asked for credit card information when playing the Pokémon card game online. Never give your billing information to anyone you do not trust.
