How to Know When a Marriage Is Over

Knowing when a marriage is over is sometimes much more difficult than one might expect. There are so many factors to consider such as kids, finances and feelings. One really must explore all of these areas to truly know when a marriage has run its course. There are, however, some universal ways to know when a marriage is over. You may not want to admit it, but it may be the nicest solution for all involved.

Instructions

    • 1

Notice if your love life has dwindled away. Generally speaking, a marriage without sex is on the way to being over. Some marriages are fine without physical passion, but most need this part of life as husband and wife.

    • 2

Realize that a lack of cuddling can be more telling than a lack of sex. Even in the absence of a sex life, cuddling and holding hands should still be present. This is at a minimum.

    • 3

Kiss your spouse and see what the reaction is. A quick peck in return to satiate you is a horrible sign. If you are shooed away without a follow up kiss, this is a bad sign.

    • 4

Stay true to your husband or wife. Expect the same from your spouse. Consider cheating in a marriage to be a death wish for the marriage. Some marriages recover from infidelity, but it's usually the beginning of the end.

    • 5

Divorce your spouse immediately if you are experiencing abuse. There is never a good reason to stay with anyone that abuses you, and kids are a reason to stay away from an abuser. The kids are probably being abused if you are. Get out while you still can if there is physical abuse, emotional abuse or verbal abuse. All are equally debilitating.

    • 6

Ask your spouse to consider going to a counselor to help work out your problems. If your marriage is in trouble and a spouse is unwilling to go to counseling, there is a good chance that your marriage is over.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do get away from abuse right away.

  • Do consider all avenues of repair before divorce.

  • Do use a marriage counselor if you can not repair it alone.

  • Do not try to reform an abusive spouse.

  • Do not accept cheating from your spouse.

  • Do not sacrifice your happiness for anyone else.
