Things You'll Need:
- Kit for large dollhouse, at least 8 rooms
- Medium density fiberboard or plywood, at least 3/8 inch for the walls, and 3/4 inch for ceiling and floors
- Drill
- Hammer
- Nails
- Wood glue
- Tape measure
- Graph paper or sketch pad
- Circular and keyhole saw
-
Step 1
Using the assembly instructions from the dollhouse kit, assemble the main dollhouse. Take measurements of the bottom of the dollhouse, and decide how you want the outside of the basement to look. Would you like it to be a porch for the house, or merely a small front garden and a small set of stairs?
-
Step 2
Sketch your design onto paper or graph paper, and decide what dimensions you want the finished basement to have, and how many rooms you will be adding. Use your sketches to make pattern pieces for the dollhouse, remembering to include holes for doors and windows.
-
Step 3
Mark the MDF or plywood using the pattern pieces, and cut out the marked pieces using a circular saw.
-
Step 4
Sand all the cut edges of your pieces smooth. Nail and glue pieces together, making sure that the joints are secure. Sand over nailheads, and let the glue dry. After the basic basement structure is in place, add porch or deck railings, landscaping, and other features as desired.
-
Step 5
Place dollhouse on top of finished basement, and paint and decorate house and basement. Move your doll family in, and enjoy!
