How to Acquire the "Ultima" Spell in Final Fantasy Tactics
The "Ultima" spell is one of the strongest attack spells in Final Fantasy Tactics, but it can't be gained by earning job points like most other spells. It can only be learned by the main character, and only if it is first cast on him by an enemy while he is using the "Squire" job.
Instructions

-
1
Play through the first three quarters of the game until you reach the battle at Limberry Castle in Chapter Four.
-
2
Maneuver the main character around the battlefield so that he is always within the range of attack of either of the female enemies named "Celia" or "Lede."
-
-
3
Battle the enemies on the field, but make sure not to kill Celia or Lede yet.
-
4
Wait until Celia or Lede casts the "Ultima" spell on the main character. This may take a while as they don't cast the spell often and they may target someone other than the main character the first few times. As soon as the spell is cast on the main character, he will immediately gain it as a spell that he can cast.

Tips & Warnings
Although the "Squire" job is one of the basic starting jobs in the game, the job menu screen will not show that you have mastered the job until the main character learns the "Ultima" spell.
Your party members may take quite a beating while they wait for the "Ultima" spell to be cast on the main character, so make sure you have a character that can use healing spells or items.
There are a few other enemies that cast the spell during the course of the game, but the battle at Limberry Castle is the easiest place to have someone cast the spell on the main character.
The main character must be using the "Squire" job when the "Ultima" spell is cast on him or he won't learn the spell.
