How to Make Holiday Cascarones
Cascarones are a traditional craft made and enjoyed in Mexico and the Southwestern United States. Cascarones are similar to Easter eggs, and indeed they are common to Easter as well as other celebrations, except the eggs are filled with a fun surprise!
Things You'll Need
- 1 dozen eggs
- Tissue paper
- Food coloring or markers
- White glue or glitter glue
- Confetti
- Small knife
- Bowl
- Small funnel
Instructions

1
Poke a small hole in one end of the egg while holding it over the bowl. Turn the egg over and poke another hole in the other end of the egg.
-
2
Shake the egg gently so that the white and yolk drain out. You can also blow through one hole to help it drain more quickly.

-
3
Repeat steps one and two with the remaining eggs, placing each one carefully back into the container they came in. When you are finished, carefully rinse each shell to remove any remaining white or yoke and place it back into the container.
-
4
Decorate the shells with food coloring or markers, glitter glue, or glue on pieces of tissue paper. Cover one hole in each shell by gluing on a piece of tissue paper over the hole.
-
5
Use the funnel to pour confetti into each egg shell. You can carefully widen the hole with the knife if necessary. When the shell is full of confetti, glue a piece of tissue paper over the hole. Allow the cascarones to dry, and have fun throwing them at each other, or walk up and "smash" a cascarone onto someone's head.

Tips & Warnings
You can glue your cascarones into decorated paper cones and use as a handle.
It is considered good luck to have a cascarone broken over your head.
Beat the raw eggs and pour into ice trays. Freeze and place the egg cubes into freezer baggies. Thaw and use as needed!
