How to Draw a Relaxed Hand
Hands can be tricky to draw when an artist is first starting out. But eventually an artist begins to realize that hands are not made out of too many parts. The hand slants out wider than the wrist on both sides of the hand extending to four fingers that are proportional in width and really only different in length and the size of thumbs vary. The thumb can be drawn in numerous ways as long as the thumb is shorter and fatter than the rest of the fingers.

1
Draw two lines that represent part of the arm. These lines should be moving towards each other to the point where the wrist is.
-
2
Draw lines slanting away from each other that extend from the previous lines that you drew. Round these lines out a little and then connect them with a straight line. This will be your hand.

Start drawing the thumb. One way to draw a thumb is to draw two curving lines that both curve towards the fingers and then use a rounded line to connect the open ends of the rounded lines.

Tips & Warnings
Do not over rely on reference pictures. You must learn to draw from your own imagination or else you will always need a reference picture to draw.
