An easy way to update the look of your home, or to add a unique touch, is to look to your walls. A fresh coat of paint and a decorative finish can change the entire feel of a room, or your entire house. Most techniques are fairly easy to implement, as long as you have the right tools. Some of the most common types of finishes include adding borders and faux finishing, both of which require sponge stamps.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Access to your local hardware store
  • Method of payment
  • Knowledge of which project you intend to complete
  1. Step 1

Get to your local hardware store and find the paint section. You will see rows of sponges, stamps and rollers. Along with these you will probably find books on decorative wall finishes. This will help you know you are in the right area. If you are having trouble locating the area, ask a store associate.

  2. Step 2

Look closely through all the sponges and stamps, and find the design you are looking to implement on your walls. This type of stamp could be very small, backed on a block of wood, or larger backed on plastic. Some types of stamps have handles. Take your time choosing the right design that is best for you.

  3. Step 3

Once you have chosen your stamps, look over them closely. Check to make sure no bits of sponge are missing, and that the sponge is still springy and soft.

  4. Step 4

Present your method of payment, collect your purchases and head home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Larger stamps will do well for borders, and smaller stamps can create vignette to break up a wall color. Clusters of small stamps can be used on borders as well.
