How to Setup a Wireless Network

This article will explain how to briefly set up a wireless network.

  • Broadband Modem (Cable or DSL modem)
  • Router
  • PCI card (optional)
  • Notebook Card (optional)

      Cable Modem

      Get Cable or DSL modem installed through local provider.

      Wireless Router  by LinkSys

      Buy Wireless Router through office supply store and follow all connectivity instructions in box along with installing software onto computer.

      Now, check for internet activity to make sure your connection is okay.

      If that is done then you are okay. Now we will get to wireless with desktops.

      PCI Card

      If you have a desktop without wireless capability then you will need to purchase a PCI Card or USB Adapter at your local office supply store.

      Follow instructions in box for connectivity and install hardware/software. Check for internet connectivity after that to make sure all desktops can connect to the internet.

      Notebook Card

      If you are wirelessly connecting laptops or a laptop then you will need to purchase a Notebook Card.

      Plug in the notebook card and install software. Check for connectivity and you are done!!

      Vonage Modem

      If you have Vonage phone service all you have to do is disconnect the YELLOW cable from the computer and connect that end to the Router for service!

      A completed wireless connection is a great one!!

Tips & Warnings

  • Buy same brand in Notebook or PCI card as the Router for better compatibility!!

  • Check all cable connections

  • PCI Card can be a little difficult to install so if you are not tech savvy then I would not recommend it...get a USB adapter instead!
