How to Get a Job in Pro Wrestling

If you're an avid fan of pro wrestling, religiously watch shows like "Raw," "Smackdown," "ECW" and "TNA," and routinely attend local wrestling shows, you'd probably consider a job in pro wrestling to be ideal. Here are some ways you can approach the possibility of a wrestling career.

Instructions

    • 1

Work on your body. Be smart with your eating, sleeping and workouts. Even if it doesn't pay off in your wrestling career, it will pay off in numerous other ways for your physical and mental health.

    • 2

Work on your mind. Think of how you would "cut a promo" or the best way to get into a character that will connect with fans. Also, stay in school and work on your education. There just may be something in those boring schoolbooks that you can use in the ring or on the mike!

    • 3

Work on your skills. If you have a pro wrestling school near your area, ask about signing up (see Resources below). If not, try out for your local high school, college or club wrestling team. This will help keep get you in shape and prepare you for the pounding your body will take in a wrestling match.

    • 4

Work on your presentation. Give the fans and promoters someone they can connect with. Don't try to be a character. Instead, take the biggest, loudest part of your personality and push it over the limit. Don't forget your outfit, and make it as unique and eye-catching as you can (see Resources below).

    • 5

Work on your experience. You won't have your first match for a world title on pay-per-view (unless your name is Paul Wight). You'll start out in dingy bars and high school gyms. Keep going, keep trying and keep sending videos to promoters, both national and local. You never know who's watching and waiting to give you your big break!

Tips & Warnings

  • Get a good group of friends to support you. Maybe you can invite them to your world title match one day!

  • Do not try backyard wrestling. It's too dangerous, too unsupervised and any reputable promoter will laugh you out of his office if you present your backyard wrestling video as "experience."

  • Avoid steroids. While they help with recovering from workouts, the physical and emotional toll they take in exchange for a better body is too much. Numerous men have become world champions without ever taking steroids. Have faith in your abilities in the ring and on the mike.
