How to Do UFC Wrestling Moves

I’ll start by expanding on the title. “UFC wrestling moves” is a little vague. The grappling seen in mixed martial arts comes from a variety of sources, generally either Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Sambo or some form of wrestling, like catch or Greco-Roman. The technique I will explain is called the straight arm bar. It is one of the most basic arm locks that you will learn in most grappling systems.

Instructions

  1. How to do a Straight Arm Bar from Knees on Belly Position

    • 1

In this instance, the technique will be performed from the knee on belly position, which is a dominant ground fighting position in which a fighter places his knees on the torso of another fighter, putting all of his weight on the opponent in an attempt to keep him still. One leg is kept extended to the side to help maintain balance. From this position:

    • 2

Once your opponent extends his arm in an attempt to launch an offensive technique, grab the arm behind the elbow with the arm closest to your opponent’s head. Using the leg on the same side of your body, step over his head.

    • 3

Be sure to keep your weight on your opponent’s torso. Keep his arm tight to your body and as you step over, stay as close to him as possible. The less room you give him, the less his chance of escape.

    • 4

Sit down, keeping as close to his shoulder as possible. Lay backward, using the leg over your opponent’s head to keep his head still, and the leg that was on his chest pressed against his side. By maintaining control, you prevent him from turning toward you and reversing the technique. Apply pressure to your opponent’s arm by pulling down on his wrist and using your thigh, pressing up against his elbow joint. This can easily break a person’s arm, so exercise extreme caution. Your opponent should tap you once the lock is applied, signifying that he has submitted and should be let go.

Tips & Warnings
