Eating for two turning into eating for four?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

When people suggest that you are eating for two it is important to remind yourself that you are the source of nutrition for your baby. Your body will give nutrition to the baby first and you second. This is why it is so important to take your prenatal vitamins. Eating foods with great nutritional value will help you feel better and let you know you're doing the best thing for your little one.

  2. Step 2

Get your partner involved with helping you make good choices. Ask him to hold you accountable and support you when you make good food choices.

  3. Step 3

Don't keep unhealthy food around the house. If you have the choice of eating healthy treats from your fridge or going through the effort of going out and braving traffic, wasting gas, facing crowds and waiting in lines you might find its just easier to grab that apple. Eating healthy is a choice, not something that certain people are just predisposed to do. You can choose to eat well or not, but it's makes the choice simpler when the healthy option is available and the unhealthy one is not.

And think forward. When shopping if you know that you find yourself craving ice cream, find another lighter dairy option to keep at the house like sherbet or cereal.

  4. Step 4

Keep easy nonperishable snacks in your car. A granola bar, natural frit snacks or nuts in your glove compartment can beat out that on the road craving which might have you swinging into the drive thru.

  5. Step 5

Do easy exercise. Take a walk with a friend. Do pregnancy yoga. Acting healthy will make you want to eat healthy.

  6. Step 6

Go easy on yourself if you slip up and find yourself fork deep in a plate of General Tso's or staring at an empty fast food bag. Your body has cravings to let you know what it needs. An indulgence here and there is not going to set you off.

Also while you are pregnant is not the time to try and lose weight. It is important to keep up a healthy diet. If you are concerned about your weight going into pregnancy, speak with your doctor about what he/she considers healthy weight gain and follow his/her advice. And don't compare your weight gain to others. Your sister or best friend may have gained 85 pounds or only 4 pounds, but this is not their pregnancy, it is yours and you should go by what your doctor suggests.
