Are you going camping soon or do you live in a wooded area? If you answered "yes" then it is important for you to know that ticks are known to occupy such areas. Ticks can be a problem and need to be detected fast and removed just as quickly to prevent the host from contracting Lyme Disease. Brian and Jessica Howard, campers and first responders, informed me of the pertinent steps that need to be taken when encountered with a tick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A box of kitchen matches
  • Someone who is not squeamish

Determine whether or not a tick has penetrated the skin. A tick that has penetrated the skin will resemble a mole-like, brown or blackish raised discoloration. Generally, ticks resemble a beetle-type looking bug.

    Next, light match.

  3. Step 3

    Then, blow it out.

  4. Step 4

While the match is still hot, place it on the tick bite. The tick should back out and let go of the skin.

If this does not work, you have other options and I encourage you to read my article on, "How to Detect and Remove a Tick Using Petroleum Jelly."

  6. Step 6

Finally, it is always a smart idea to have a professional look at the wound to make sure you don't get Lyme Disease.
