This delicacy is a great dessert for a special occasion, and doubles as a great conversation piece!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1.5 dozen lady fingers
  • 2.5 dozen macaroons (from bakery or homemade)
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.5 cups chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  1. Step 1

    Line spring pan with waxed paper. Stand lady fingers (split) around the edge. Layer macaroons in small pieces on bottom.

  2. Step 2

    Heat sugar and water in double boiler. Add beaten yolks and cook until thick and smooth. Cool.

  3. Step 3

    Cream butter and powdered sugar. Add cooled egg mixture and pecans. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

  4. Step 4

    Fill pan half full then layer the rest of the lady fingers and macaroons, then layer the rest of the butter and egg mixture.

  5. Step 5

    Refrigerate for 24 hours. Serve topped with whipped cream. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
