Make Recycled Crafts: Plastic Gumball Bubble Key Chain

Recycle plastic gumball/toy bubbles into creative key chains. Don't throw them away, recycle and reuse. Fill it with beach sand or tiny shells from your vacation to the beach, or fill it with odds and ends. Be creative and make your key chain unique

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Empty Plastic gumball/toy bubble
  • tiny items to fill bubble
  • small piece of jewelry wire
  • versa-tool
  • key chain
  • E6000 Glue
  • jewelry pliers and cutters if needed
  1. Step 1

With jewelry wire cutters, cut a piece of wire and bend in half as shown in picture.

  2. Step 2

With your versa-tool, melt two tiny holes in lid of your bubble.

  3. Step 3

Insert wire through small ring on your key chain, then insert wire ends into holes, so the bent part of the wire is on the outside of the bubble cap. Twist wire together on the inside with jewelry pliers.

  4. Step 4

Fill your plastic bubble with tiny items. On this one, we filled ours with tiny colored sea shells.

  5. Step 5

Place a thin layer of E6000 glue on rim of cap, and snap together carefully. Let dry. This glue ensures a longer hold on your bubble key chain.

Tips & Warnings
  • Fill bubble with game pieces from board games.
  • Fill bubble with sand from your favorite beach for a frugal souvenir
  • Fill bubble with broken jewelry pieces or beads
  • Fill bubble with punched paper from your hole puncher catch base.
  • Heat tool, and glue require adult supervision if children are involved in this craft.

on 8/2/2008 I've added a link to a Versa Tool with Amazon.com, and you can find them as most craft stores such as JoAnn Fabrics. I hope this helps. :)
