This article will help minimize the confusion and the anxiety of choosing the right vibrator...because we all know once we try it out, there is no returning it used!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Bullet Vibrator

Have you been considering purchasing yourself your first vibrator but are feeling overwhelmed by the choices out there? Let me tell you, there are a plethora of choices. Shapes, sizes, colors, materials...you could go cross-eyed searching aimlessly through stores or pages of items in online websites. Well I'm going to break it down for you step by step...take a deep breath and get ready to make the most fantastic purchase of your life! The first real step is, what kind of vibrator do you want? What do you want to stimulate? Your g-spot, your clitoris, your booty, both or all three?!

Once you figure out what you want to stimulate, there is more choices within that category. If you just want a clitoral stimulator, there are eggs, bullets and pocket rockets. Eggs are shaped just like eggs and can be used to rub against your clitoris or actually inserted in you as they usually come with some sort of tether to hold on to so they don't get lost deep inside you. Bullets are shaped just like bullets and work the same way as eggs, they are just thinner. Pocket rocket type vibrators are hand-held baby vibrators and some even come with different attachments for different sensations that can be placed over the tip. G-Spot vibrators are usually vibrators that are made to be inserted into the vagina that have a telltale curve in them meant to be placed directly against the g-spot. Some can have bendable vertebrae in the shaft to help you get that perfect curve to fit your body. Many shaft type vibrators come with an external device that is made to fit snuggly against your clitoris and stimulate both your vagina and clitoris at the same time. These are often times dubbed the name "Rabbit" vibrators because the clitoral stimulator can look like a set of rabbit ears.

  3. Step 3

And if you wanna get a little more crazy and fun, you can pick up hands-free type vibrators that come with thigh straps and strap on over your legs and fit snuggly inside you and up against your clitoris to leave your hands to roam over your body freely. No matter what choice you make, take into consideration what kind of power is supplied to it. Vibrators that only use one AA battery aren't going to have very strong vibrations. Some vibrators take four AA batteries and have many different settings to choose from starting at 1 and ending at 10. There are also vibrators that are now rechargeable and some that plug into wall outlets so the fun never has to stop or slow down! Take time deciding what type of material you want your toy made out of. Cyberskin is the closest thing to real skin so if realism is what you are looking for, this is the way to go. If you are looking for something that will conduct vibrations better, silicone makes a very good conductor and makes the motor feel stronger.

Tips & Warnings
  • One important thing to remember is what material you are purchasing makes a difference as to what lubricant you can use with it. Oil based lubes can lead to yeast infections and just as importantly, silicone lubes will destroy silicone and cyberskin toys. So although silicone-based lubricants typically last longer than water-based lubricants, with certain toys, water-based is the only way to go.
  • While you are in the store or shopping online, pick up a bottle of toy cleaner. Don't ever let your toys stay laying around or put them away without washing them. And never, ever share them with anyone.

on 7/29/2008 A lot of people don't know the difference. Sometimes they go out and buy an oil based lube for vaginal sex and get an infection and think it was from the poor person they had sex with. Some totally destroy their toys from using the wrong lube...and we know some of those toys can be pretty expensive!
