File and Shape Your Nails
File and Shape Your Nails

Filing your nails is an important step to maintaining beautiful nails all year round. Whether you nails are long or short you should take the time to file them carefully for happy, beautiful, and healthy nails.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nail file or emery board.
  1. Step 1

Trim your nails. If your nails are really odd shaped, over long, or difficult to work with trim them. This is the perfect time to decide if you want a rounded nail or a squared off one. Trim according to the shape you want.

  2. Step 2

Take the roughest side of your file and gently file your nail at an angle. Work from the rightmost edge to the center. Never saw. Only make strokes toward the center.

  3. Step 3

File your nail from the left edge to the center.

  4. Step 4

If your file has a softer side then you will use that to gently file the edge of the nail down. This will remove the rough edges.

  5. Step 5

If you have a lot of rough lines in your nail gently rub them out with the softest side of your file.

  6. Step 6

Wash your hands before doing daily items or before painting your nails.

Tips & Warnings
  • Move slow. Filing too quickly will leave rough edges and damage the nail.
