Those who are most successful have learned how to achieve their career goals and surge ahead by acting on career opportunities while contributing to their company’s success. To ensure that your career does not stagnate, consider these steps.

  1. Step 1

    Stay informed about career opportunities in your company. Review all job postings and apply for positions that match your career goals.

  2. Step 2

    During professional development sessions or performance evaluation discussions, let your boss know that you are interested in more responsibility and advancement opportunities.

  3. Step 3

    Offer to train new workers and serve on committees, project teams, or act as a troubleshooter in a crisis. Contribute a new idea or solution to a problem and render assistance where possible.

  4. Step 4

    Keep your performance quality high. Work on any areas that need improvement, and upgrade your knowledge and skills to keep pace with new technologies and other developments in your area of expertise.

  5. Step 5

    Become a life-long learner. Read a variety of articles and books to keep your mind sharp

    Be considerate of co-workers and bosses. Don’t let ambition cause you to become over-confident and arrogant.
