1
Avoid the negative. No matter what you do, some people are just not supportive of single parents. If you find that others disagree with your choices and are not being supportive, leave them behind for the time being. What you don't need is negative feedback and emotions from others during this journey.
-
2
Talk to your family and friends. Those who love you may have some initial concerns about your pregnancy. Talk about it with them and ask them for support. If they can't support you without making snide or rude comments, move on.

3
Find an appropriate caregiver. There are some caregivers out there who favor married couples. Choose a caregiver that will respect your choices as a single parent.
-
4
Take childbirth classes. The more education you receive about your journey, the better off you will be. In addition, taking childbirth classes will help you meet other single mothers.
-
5
Hire a doula. If you will be going into labor alone, consider hiring a doula. Doulas provide emotional, physical and mental support to mothers during labor, delivery and postpartum. There are probably some in your community that may be willing to barter services.
-
6
Meet other single moms in your community. They may be the best ones to offer advice and support. You can check at your local YMCA, health club, schools, daycare facilities or pregnancy crisis centers for single mother groups.
-
7
Find single mothers on the Internet. If you cannot find single mothers in your community, look on the Internet. There are plenty of single mother clubs and boards. Whichever way you go, just get plenty of support.
-
8
Plan ahead. As a single mother, you will be solely responsible for all the preparations needed. Don't wait until the last minute to do everything so you feel overwhelmed.
-
9
Practice pregnancy affirmations. Pregnancy affirmations are positive statements about your body, pregnancy and birth. Affirmations can help you stay in a positive frame of mind and continually put trust in your body and baby.
