How to Get Rid of Fleas Without Dangerous Chemicalsthumbnail
Fleas may be hard to spot, but the bites they leave behind can itch for days.

Fleas are a pesky and often painful problem for both you and your pets. These little bugs are nearly invisible, but have a painful bite that can get infected easily. If you want to stay away from using harsh chemicals in your home, but are experiencing a mild to moderate flea infestation, there are some natural, non-toxic ways to rid your home of these tiny pests.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Soap
    • Eucalyptus oil
    • Vacuum
    • Diatomaceous earth
      • 1

Completely vacuum your home and clean all surfaces. Fleas may primarily live on your pet, but they can jump over 100 times their own height and can lay nearly invisible eggs on any surface.

      • 2

Bathe your pet in warm water, and scrub them with liquid dish soap. Dish soap is non-toxic and will kill fleas instantly. It will not, however, leave any residue behind to kill newly hatched fleas, so you will need to repeat this at least twice a week for it to be effective.

      • 3

Treat carpet and pet furniture with diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is a non-toxic natural substance which will kill any fleas it comes in contact with on contact. A light sprinkling of diatomaceous earth on high-traffic carpet surfaces and areas your pet frequents will kill fleas, and will also destroy flea eggs as well. Do not use pool-grade diatomaceous earth as this is very toxic to pets.

Use eucalyptus oil on baseboards and other areas where you cannot put diatomaceous earth. This will act as a natural deterrent and force the fleas back into the treated areas.
