Step 1
On my first trip to Mexico 20 years ago I made some excellent observations on what to do and what not to do when you are on vacation.
Remember safety first, especially while vacationing in a foreign country. -
Step 2
I first observed that where ever you go in Mexico you can not drink water out of the foset. The water isn't purified and can make very ill if you ingest it. Drink bottled water at all times if you ever travel to Mexico. Never leave any valuables in your hotel room in your absence. Maids and Janitors enter guests rooms every day sometimes more than once. If something valuable is taken don't expect on ever seeing it again. Always be cautious about going about after dark. I know in Mexico there are not many places you can go to after dark that are safe or have any measure of security. Police in Mexico have been known to over look some crimes and even take bribes. If you ever end up in a Mexican jail plan on not going back home for a long time.
If traveling out of the US, do not buy Prescription medications over the counter. In many foreign countries, Mexico included, you can buy Prescription drugs over the counter with no questions asked. The Pharmacies even sell dangerous narcotic drugs with no medical script or supervision. Most Foreign Countries have no Drug Enforcement Laws and they can legally sell these drugs. In addition, you never know how long the medicine was sitting on a shelf. Expired medications can make you sick even kill you. -
Step 3
Do not carry large amounts of cash. It is best to use Travelers checks and Credit cards when traveling. Make sure you know exactly how much credit you have available on your credit accounts before you leave for vacation.
Wear sunscreen at all times especially in a tropical climate. Skin cancer rates seem to be on the rise in the United States.
If traveling abroad make sure you know the money exchange rate. Too many times tourists are overcharged for souvenirs and other items because they don't know the currency.
I hope I provided some useful information for travelers. It is always important to be responsible and stay safe.
