Instructions

  1. Title Page

    • 1

Choose New York City theme-pattern paper for a background.

    • 2

Select a favorite photo to introduce the book, such as your hotel, your group in front of a favorite landmark or an image of the Brooklyn Bridge with the skyline in the background.

    • 3

Place your photo, apple die cut and a scrapbook pocket on the page meant to hold mementos, such as ticket stubs or postcards. Arrange these elements on the page in a pleasing design and affix them with glue or double-sided tape.

    • 4

Embellish the front of the pocket with NYC-themed stickers.

    City Streets Layout

    • 5

Print a copy of the New York City skyline, adjusted to about half the height of your page and the entire width. For example, on a 12-by-12-inch page, your skyline would be six inches high and 12 inches wide. Cut out the skyline as a template.

    • 6

Lay the template on a sheet of light gray paper. Trace it and cut it out.

    • 7

Cover the top third of a sheet of black card stock with sky-blue paper. Place the skyline strip across the card stock with the buildings overlapping the blue. Affix the arrangement with adhesive.

    • 8

Affix an airplane sticker on the top corner of the page above the skyline. Print the title of the layout on a narrow strip of paper and affix the banner behind the plane. Draw two lines from the corners of the title to the back of the plane, as though the plane is toting the banner.

    • 9

Use taxi and car stickers or die cuts across the bottom black strip of the page. Journal photo details, such as dates and names, on the taxi cabs.

    Broadway

    • 10

Use black card stock for the background. Line the four edges of the paper with rhinestones or shiny round stickers to represent the lights on Broadway.

    • 11

Mount your photos on neon paper and arrange them on the page.

    • 12

Photocopy and print theater programs, autographs or ticket stubs. Cut out and arrange the copies on the page and affix them.

    • 13

Journal directly on the page or write the names of the shows you saw using opaque markers in neon colors.

    Central Park

    • 14

Make a city skyline shape on a gray strip of paper. Glue it near the top of a sheet of sky-blue card stock.

    • 15

Affix a sheet of green card stock to cover the bottom two-thirds of the page, overlapping the bottom of the skyline strip. Affix a row of tree die cuts across the top of the green sheet.

    • 16

Mount your images on the field of green. Make frames for your images with small street-sign stickers. Overlap them slightly so they completely cover the edges of the photos.

    • 17

Journal your memories on the gray strip of skyline.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spray your mementos with acid-neutralizing spray, or keep them in pockets so they won't directly come into contact with photos.

  • If you aren't happy with your city photos, copy and print images from books, magazines or the internet to use in your scrapbook.

  • Scrapbook with products that are free of acid and lignin.
