Things You'll Need:
- yourself
- a commitment to joy
- a desire to lighten up
-
Step 1
Laugh with a baby or a child. It is very difficult to remain serious for long around children and babies. Engagement and eye contact with any human can stimulate laughter, but especially with kids. Peek-a-boo and other childhood games are a sure fire way to get some laughter started. Don't have kids? Borrow one!
-
Step 2
Accessorize. Purchase and carry around amusing pens. You can get pens with glitter, feathers, lights etc. Even moving parts! Wear funny and colorful socks, silly and unique jewelry. I bet you will smile or laugh each time you see these silly accessories and others will too!
-
Step 3
Read the cartoons & jokes. Use cartoons for wrapping paper! Post your favorite cartoons at your desk or on the fridge. Sign up for the Clean Joke of the Day to be delivered to your Inbox.
-
Step 4
Have a reunion! Friends and family aren't required, although they might be good additions. Looking through photo albums, watching home movies or relaying stories is a classic way to find laughter.
-
Step 5
Throw a theme party. Throw a slumber party with girl friends. Or have a hat party, a wig party or a tea party. You can invite friends over for a finger food party where everyone has to feed each other. And gibberish parties are a blast. No one is allowed to speak English. Laughter really is the universal language!
-
Step 6
Seek out laughers. Often the people we spend the most time with are the people we laugh with the least. We think that work or marriage is serious business. Make a point to share smiles and laughter with those closest to you. Also make a point to seek out others who laugh. Check out people's funny bone. Are they easy to laugh with? Ensure those around you are someone with which you feel comfortable opening up, laughing and being silly.
-
Step 7
Collect toys. Not expensive adult toys like TiVo’s, sport cars and I-Pods, but simple toys that serve no purpose, no meaning and no redeeming social value. Purchase some squishy balls or wind-up toys and keep them on your desk at work. In no time your colleagues will find themselves playing with them and laughing when they stop by.
-
Step 8
Create your own laughter exercise. If you haven't seen Laughter Yoga, check it out (link below) and then create your own laughter exercise. As humans we have unlimited material!
-
Step 9
Wave at yourself and smile and laugh whenever you see a mirror.
-
Step 10
And generally try to do at least one silly thing a day!
