Step 1
The first thing to consider when buying a swimsuit is your body type. Do you have wide hips but a small bust? Are you busty? You have to keep in mind that a perfect swimsuit will highlight your best characteristics, and will not emphasize anything it shouldn't.
For example, a string bikini will look fabulous on someone with a fit and toned body. But a wider bikini might suit someone who is not as toned best. -
Step 2
Consider the kind of activity you will be engaging in while wearing the swimwear. Are you going to be swimming, playing in the ocean/pool? If you, you might want to avoid strapless bikinis, and you may want to opt for something that will give you a lot of movement, like a full swimsuit.
-
Step 3
How public is the area you will be in? Many times, the bikini of choice is not allowed where you will be going. For example, thongs are not allowed in certain public places.
-
Step 4
If you are very slim throughout, you can get away with pretty much any bikini shape, but because you do have a boyish frame, opt for a more feminine one.
-
Step 5
If you have big hips and small shoulders (pear shaped), wear a top that will draw attention to your chest, and not a bottom that will draw attention to your hips. Low-wasted bottoms with little bows will also help balance out your figure. One piece swimsuits highlight your waist, but they make your legs look shorter - or even heavier - than they really are.
Avoid high waists. They don't flatter heavy hips and thighs. -
Step 6
If you have well-proportioned curves:
If your shoulders and hips are the same width and you have a slim waist to boot, you're able to wear pretty much any kind of swimwear. Take care with one pieces, though. They have to fit perfectly: they have the potential of making you look heavy if they don't hug your curved perfectly. If you have little love handles, avoid tight strings that make you look like you're squeezed into your bikini.
Don't wear strapless tops if you're big-busted. They will make you look flat.
