Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Motivation
- Understanding
- Good attitude
- Be Willing to lend a hand
-
Step 1
Encourage, encourage, encourage! No matter how old your child is encouraging them is the most important thing you can do.
-
Step 2
Show up for their games. While it may be difficult as parents for both of you to be at every game, try to make sure at least one of you is there at all times. It means a lot to a child to look up and see mom and dad cheering them on.
-
Step 3
Be there to help them practice. You might not be a great athlete, but you can still help your child practice, especially when they are younger. Your involvement will help them immensely.
-
Step 4
Pick them up when they make a mistake. It's going to happen, everyone makes mistakes, but children can take it very hard. Be there to motivate them to keep going.
-
Step 5
Make sure they are having a good time. If they aren't enjoying their time, then maybe it isn't the right sport for them.

on 7/28/2008 Very good points! It's more important that you be there for the child and have fun than it is for them to win.
