When oil sets into articles of clothing, it can be hard to get out. Here is a way to remove those oil stains with minimal effort.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, lay out soiled article of clothing. Place paper towels in between the layers of the soiled article.

  2. Step 2

For a small stain, apply lighter fluid to the oil stain. Rub in to clothing and let stand for 5 minutes. Apply dish soap on the stain and rub in. Rinse out dish soap and place article into washer. Wash according to care label. Remove from washer and check stain. If stain has been removed, launder as usual. If not, repeat above steps until stain is removed.

  3. Step 3

For a large stain, take the article of clothing outside. Apply gasoline to the oil stain. Let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse soiled article with water from the garden hose. Rub dish soap into article and rinse again. If stain has been removed, launder as usual. If not, repeat above steps until stain has been removed and launder as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lighter fluid and gasoline are combustible materials. Remove as much of these from article of clothing before washing.
