iGoogle has a spell check widget called Spell Boy that comes in handy for anyone writing articles or presentations for meetings. A nice perk is the word count feature.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet Access
  • Text
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a Google account. This will give you access to all sorts of Google goodies including the SpellBoy which is on a customizable homepage.

  2. Step 2

Start writing your article or text.

  3. Step 3

Use your mouse to put the cursor on the text and Right click on the text. A small window of choices will appear. Left click on select all. This will highlight the text you will be spell checking.

  4. Step 4

Move the cursor away from the highlighted area and right click again to bring up the choice window. This time, left click on copy.

  5. Step 5

Go to the iGoogle SpellBoy and click in the space for text then left click and bring up the window choice again and left click on paste. This should put all of your highlighted text into the text box.

  6. Step 6

Click the spell check button at the bottom and wait.

  7. Step 7

The spell checker will give you a word count and how many, if any, words are mis-spelled. Sometimes a word is tagged as wrong when it is not a typical dictionary word such as Google or online.

Tips & Warnings
  • When in doubt about a spelling, use an online dictionary to double check the spelling.
  • You can type your text directly into the spell check text box and then check for spelling before you deliver it to it's final destination.
  • Spell checks don't always pick up on word meaning, only spelling. So, if you meant to write the word sail or sale and write sell, it will be considered correct in spelling only, not meaning.
