You will learn how to prepare your pet for the arrival of your child.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pets become familiar with smells. Bring home an under shirt from the hospital for your pet to sniff and allow your pet to spend time in your baby’s room before the baby’s arrival.

  2. Step 2

When you first bring the baby home, greet the pet and allow someone else to hold your infant. Pets become attached and jealous of others in their space.

  3. Step 3

Include your pet in family activities as much as possible that he or she has been accustomed to, such as sitting on the bed while you read or the sofa.

  4. Step 4

When your pet behaves well in your baby’s presence offer them praise or a treat.

  5. Step 5

Never leave your pet alone with your baby. Your pet may become curious and try to cuddle up to your newborn and smother or harm them.

Tips & Warnings
  • try not to make any drastic changes in how you relate with your pet
  • the safety of your child is of utmost importance
