Things You'll Need:
- dreadcomb
- elastic bands
- comb
- patience

Step 1
So you have decided you want dreads, great! Now you need to decide what kind of dreads you want before you go any further! do you big chunky dreads, medium size dreads or very thin dreads? You need to part you hair into squares, all the sections muct be of equal size. The size of the dreads will relect the size of the square.
When you first make them they are big and messy but with time and palm rolling the get really tight and much small and you need to give a little room for this.
When you make a section tie it with an elastic band and continue until you have your full head done. -
Step 2
Next you need to get a dread comb and start working the hair, if you cannot get a dreadcomb in your area or do not have access to a credit card to get one online, you can also go to a pet store and ask for a metal comb for a long haired dog!! they are the exact same comb trust me and prpb cheaper to get in the pet store. though the guy there asks if its for a long haired dog while staring up at my knotty head when is a bit embarrassing!! But it does the trick nicely!

Step 3
so now you got you metal tooth comb, grab a section of hair and back comb it from the root to the tip. Taking turns to palm roll it. Some people use dread wax art this stage, it does help with the palm rolling and to get your dreads looking tidier but its really not necessary!! When once section is fully backcombed and rolled secure it with an elastic band. This is really vital as it will keep the dreads in place and also and hair that would naturally fall out will now be ancored and it will started thinckening up the dread nicely at the end. And soon enough all the way up. yopu dont really lose any hair if you have these kinds of dreads and the hair gets trapped making the dreads fatter and tighter!

Step 4
When the whole head is complete and your arm is ready to fall off i would also recommend using a crochet hook to speed up the tightening process and to tidy up all the wild hairs!! Beware at this stage if you dont take care of your dreads they could still fall out, which happened to a friend i worked on! keep the bands at the end and DO wash your hair but maintain the after!!
its a common misconception that not washing your hair can make or help dreads, greasy hair= knots sliding free! use dread shampoo or i use tee tree shampoo. Salt water is also great for dreads!
with the crochet hook you just pick a stray hair, wrap it around the hook and pull it through the dreads, repeat until it is full in.
Crochet hooks are great also if your dreads grow but some hair doesnt fall naturally into the dread, also after a whil about an inch between your scalp and dreads will be noramal haorgroth until the dread natually, the crochet hook lets you tighten them all the way to the scalp which looks great!
good luck and feel free to pm me if you have any questions or problems!
