Beach Chairs are made from various types of material - wood, plastic, canvas and metal. The best way to keep chairs free from mildew is to try and keep them out in the sun as much as possible. When not using the chairs, keep them in a dry area, not hidden in a damp, shady area. Before storing your chairs at the end of the season, clean them with the following procedure and you should not have any mildew build up during storage.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a pressure washer to clean your chairs thoroughly. If you do not have a pressure washer, use a hose with a straight force attachment. Without the pressure washer, you will have to do more scrubbing.

  2. Step 2

Fill a bucket with warm water. Use soft scrub with bleach and a soft bristle brush with a handle. Wet the brush with the warm water, pour the soft scrub on the bristles and scrub your chairs. The bristles should get in all the nooks and crannies of the chair. DO NOT USE THIS ON THE CANVAS or FABRIC CHAIRS.

  3. Step 3

For canvas fabric chairs, put ¼ cup color safe powder bleach in the bucket and fill it with warm water. Use a soft bristle brush and scrub the fabric and other areas of the chair.

  4. Step 4

Once you have the chairs all scrubbed, use the pressure washer/hose and thoroughly rinse the chairs off.

  5. Step 5

Let them air dry in the sun.

  6. Step 6

For storage, make sure they are completely dry and store in a dry place. Always cover chairs with a soft cover, not plastic, unless they have to be stored outside.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use soft scrub on canvas or fabric chairs.
