Things You'll Need:
- A store brand turkey
- Half a cup of margarine (per 10 pounds of turkey)
- Roasting pan
-
Step 1
Purchase the store brand turkey, and allow it to thaw using your usual method. Some people choose to leave it in the refrigerator a few days before Thanksgiving Day when they will be using it, to thaw. However, some people do choose to thaw quickly it by placing it in the kitchen sink in cold water, which is changed often. Once the turkey is thawed all the way, move on to the next step.
-
Step 2
Wash your hands thoroughly as you do not want to transfer germs into the turkey. Open the turkey and remove it from the package.
-
Step 3
Place the turkey in the roasting pan. Open the back end of the turkey, remove any bags, and do the same with the neck end of the turkey. The items in the bag can be placed in a pan of water and boiled to make a rich gravy base for your Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
-
Step 4
Place your fingers between the skin and meat of near the hindquarters of the turkey. Using your fingers separate, the skin from the meat all the way up to the neck area, and down the sides of the turkey as far as you possibly can. This is very easy to do, and will create a pocket for the margarine.
-
Step 5
Wash your hands with soap and water at this point. If you have a ten pound turkey using a spoon measure out half of a cup of margarine, if you have purchased a larger turkey you will need more margarine. A 20-pound turkey will need a cup of margarine. Once all the margarine needed is measured, begin stuffing the turkey.
-
Step 6
Grab some butter in your hand and stuff it in the turkey in the pocket between the skin and the meat. Stuff the butter as far as it will go toward the neck as well as down the sides of the bird. Bake as the directions on the turkey instructs you to do.
