Step 1
Put children's sunscreen and insect repellent into the kit. Sunscreen and insect repellent formulated for adults is often too irritating for children. Make sure the sunscreen contains a high SPF level.
-
Step 2
Add children's acetaminophen or ibuprofen to the kit. You can buy the kid-friendly versions of these popular medications at many stores, but you may also be able to get freebies at your doctor's office.
-
Step 3
Place liquid antihistamine and calamine lotion into the custom kit. Both of these items can help your child recover from a nasty insect sting or bite or an encounter with a plant that makes him itch.
-
Step 4
Slip self-adhesive bandages, gauze and moleskin into the kit. Include a pair of tweezers to remove splinters.
-
Step 5
Plan ahead by putting antibacterial liquids, gels or wipes into the first aid kit.
-
Step 6
Consider your children's allergies. Include any prescription medication and an Epi-pen if necessary.
-
Step 7
Include extras like eye wash, burn gel, plastic whistles and emergency contact information in the kit. Emergency space blankets, lip balm and sunglasses can also make for great additions to your first aid kit for kids.
