Acupuncture involves identifying specific points on the body that correspond with particular organs. An acupuncturist places needles on the acupuncture point to stimulate blood and energy flow to the corresponding organ. Some people use acupuncture to lose weight.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have a consultation with an acupuncturist to evaluate your overall health. Expect him to ask questions regarding your eating habits and other patterns, check your pulse and measure your stomach's health. Acupuncturists typically check for cracks, peeling or puffiness on the tongue, as these are signs of stomach problems.

  2. Step 2

Expect the acupuncturist to develop a treatment program. He'll determine which acupuncture points need treatment and work on two of these points on each visit. He'll concentrate on your digestive system and metabolism to help you lose weight.

  3. Step 3

Schedule about an hour for each visit. The practitioner places a needle on each acupuncture point and leaves the needle on that point for about 30 to 45 minutes. Besides releasing endorphins, the needles stimulate the organ represented by that point to function better and unblock any blocked energy.

  4. Step 4

Use acupuncture to help your body release endorphins to help you remain calm and relaxed. This helps you avoid overeating and binging. Endorphines play a role in the digestive and hormonal systems.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep in mind that although acupuncture can help you keep the weight off, it's not a panacea for losing weight. You'll still need to make lifestyle changes, which involve your eating habits, exercise and stress management.
