Step 1
Monitor your teen's online time. Schedule a couple of hours a day your teen can use the computer, to minimize the amount of contact she will have with strangers on online dating sites.
-
Step 2
Block or filter sites you feel are unsafe or unsuitable for your child. Check your teen's favorite websites and make sure they are secure. Talk with your teenager about which sites are safe and which sites are not safe to determine which sites you will block and which ones you will allow.
-
Step 3
Set firm rules about dating for your teen. Be involved with her plans and pick your battles. Don't automatically forbid them. Instead caution your teen and keep an eye on the individuals with whom she is associating.
-
Step 4
Purchase keystroke monitoring software for your computer to allow you to know exactly what is being said to your teen while dating online and to know exactly what your teen is saying to others. Such software can be purchased in many computer or electronics stores. The software records conversations online.

Step 5
Place the family computer in a common room of your home. Don't allow teens to have personal computers in their own bedrooms, as this is when things happen that you don't approve of. If you have the family computer set up in a common area, you can more effectively monitor your teen's online dating habits.
