1
Calculate the length of garland that you will need. Plan to use one wrapped candy for each inch of the Christmas garland. Use 24 wrapped candies when you are making an advent calendar.
-
2
Cut one piece of 4-inch long ribbon for each mint you will use in the garland. Use grosgrain ribbon when you do not want to worry about frayed ends. Choose ribbon that is not wired and that matches your Christmas decor.
-
3
Lay one piece of ribbon on your work surface so that it is perpendicular to you. Lay two mints on the ribbon so that the chain of candy will be horizontal, the ribbons vertical. Overlap the right side of the candy wrapper of the first piece with the left side of the wrapper of the second. Tie the ribbon in a tight knot to link the candies together.
-
4
Continue to assemble the candy garland in this manner until it has reached the desired length. Check the knots on each ribbon to make sure they are secure and will hold the chain together.

5
Wrap the garland around the Christmas tree starting at the top. Use the garland as a swag on the mantle attaching it with small tea cup hooks on the underside of the mantle. Hang advent calendar garlands from the wall, securing them with a thumb tack.
