it does come down to what will do the job at which venue , I recall fishing at thorp park for pike and very near the paddle boat I was going to use a live bait but I wached I horror as some young lad dipped his very larg landing net under the side of the boat and strugled to lift his net he had so many small fish in it it made me think why a pike would go for my live bait so I through out a large dead mackeral and withing two minuets I was into a twenty pluss pike , so saying it is best to use live bait or dead will be worth thinking closely.
