Bamboo flooring is becoming increasingly popular because it is a sustainable resource, not to mention it makes for an attractive wood floor. Bamboo flooring requires little care, but when you do need to give it a good cleaning, you can "green clean" it with just a few supplies.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft dust mop or vacuum cleaner
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloth mop
  • Soft clean cloths
  • Essential oils (optional or as needed)
  1. Step 1

Sweep with a soft, dry dust mop as needed. Use a vacuum cleaner instead of a dust mop if you wish, but do not use a rotating brush as it will leave scratches on your floor.

  2. Step 2

Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with approximately 1 quart of warm water in a bucket when your floor needs a more thorough cleaning. Dampen a soft cloth mop with the solution. Do a test mop with a small area first to make sure the solution will not harm your floor.

  3. Step 3

Mop small areas at a time. Do not over wet or let water sit on the surface; this will damage your floor.

  4. Step 4

Dry each section completely with a clean, soft cloth as you go. Repeat this process until you have mopped your whole floor.

  5. Step 5

Look into purchasing products which contain natural, essential oils from your flooring manufacturer, which will help in cleaning your bamboo floors by providing necessary oils and minerals to keep the luster in the bamboo planks and fill in scratches.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your flooring manufacturer's instructions for cleaning bamboo floors first. Follow instructions specifically designed for your floor.
  • Do not use abrasive or harsh chemicals of any kind when cleaning bamboo floors.
