Whether you're just looking to house your airplane for the night, or you want to find something more permanent, there are a few things that you need to be aware of when you rent aircraft hangar space. With a little bit of research, you can rest assured that your plane and your pocketbook will stay safe and secure.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out the terms of the rental. Most hangars offer both temporary and long-term storage, and the contracts are very different. The main thing to look for is an assurance that you'll have the same rental price a month down the road as you do today. Some businesses increase the price periodically if it isn't specified in the contract.

  2. Step 2

Look for hidden fees or perks. When you rent space in an aircraft hangar, some companies include a discounted rate on fuel, free taxiing on the runway and other perks just for being a customer. Other companies may charge you for such luxuries, so find out ahead of time what's included in your rental fees, and what's considered extra.

  3. Step 3

Know your rights when it comes to maintenance. Insurance issues can be complex, but it's definitely a subject that you need to be educated on when you own a plane. Ask if you can perform routine maintenance on your aircraft without prior approval, or if you have to have one of their certified aircraft mechanics do the work for you.
