How to Sunbathe Without a Top

If you're not a fan of tan lines around your neck or back, you may be tempted to sunbathe without a top. Consider these tips, however, to ensure the practice doesn't leave you red in the face.

Instructions

Find an official topless beach if you want to sunbathe in public. Ensure you're in the right section and if there are certain hours in which visitors have the right to shed their clothing so you won't receive a violation for "indecent exposure." You can also check a list of the best topless beaches (see Resources below).

Assess all the vantage points if you want to go topless in your own backyard. You may not realize that a neighbor can see you while you're getting a tan. Find a spot where you can recline and be out of the line of sight, even if it's along the side of your house instead of by the pool.

Choose a style of bathing suit that you can slip on quickly if you need to dress in a hurry. You can also leave the top straps tied so you can slip the loop over your neck in a pinch or sunbathe on a towel that you can pull around yourself in a snap.

Ask someone to slather suntan lotion on all of the exposed spots on your back that you can't reach. The areas that are susceptible to sunburn when you sunbathe without a top will also be the ones that your bra will rub against later.
