How to Go to an Elementary School Dance

If you're elementary school is going to hold a dance for upper graders to celebrate Valentine's Day, Christmas or an end-of-the-year occasion, follow a few simple strategies and precautions to ensure you have a great time with your friends, teachers and classmates.

Instructions

    • 1

Follow the dress code for the event. While an afternoon event will probably be a casual affair, an evening holiday dance may call for a dress for girls and a shirt and slacks for boys.

    • 2

Attend the dance with a group of friends instead of worrying about getting a "date." At this age, you'll have more fun hanging out with a bunch of people than having to pass the entire event with a single dance partner.

    • 3

Dance with several people. Stand in a large circle or in lines facing each other so you can relax and have an enjoyable night, rather than being self-conscious about dancing one-on-one.

    • 4

Chat with students you don't know. In elementary school, it's easy to confine your group of friends to the kids who are in your current class. Eliminate the boundaries and meet people from different grades and groups.

    • 5

Wear comfortable shoes. Although this seems like a great event to wear heels with your dress, be sure they're low enough so you can dance without twisting your ankle and stand for several hours without your feet aching the next day.
