If you maintain a swimming pool, you should keep the chemicals at the appropriate levels. There are many different kits from which to choose and the options can often be confusing, but with a little information you can find the right test kit for your pool.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Write down some basic information to take to the pool dealer with you. This should include the style and size of pool, the chemicals you use, how long you have had the pool and where your water source is. These will all be used in helping to determine the right pool test kit for you.

  2. Step 2

Know what you are testing and what to look for in a test. The tests you are performing involve the chlorine level, pH of the water, and other chemicals that may be present in tap water. Even if you are using chemicals like Softswim, you still need to test your water regularly, especially if the pool is new.

  3. Step 3

Invest in a complete pool testing kit to save money purchasing multiple kits. You will also be able to purchase refills easier too. Pool Solutions has a complete kit that allows for pH, chlorine and other testing.

  4. Step 4

Ask your pool dealer for help if you misunderstand the testing instructions before you implement the test. Don't over-test or change the chemicals too often or you will likely cause the test results to be inaccurate and the water to be improperly balanced.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stay away from the test strips. While they are cheap and easy, they are often extremely inaccurate.
