Foam often appears on top of the water in a hot tub due to a lime ring in the spa. Anti-foaming products mix with the spa's water to remove the lime and stop the foam from forming. Use an anti-foam chemical to clean the mess within minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase an anti-foam chemical from a spa chemical seller. These products vary depending on the size and type of spa. Ask the spa chemical dealer or read the information provided on the bottles to choose the best product for your hot tub.

  2. Step 2

Open the bottle and remove the safety seal from under the cap. Most bottles have a pull tab on the top or side of the seal.

  3. Step 3

Read the instructions on the bottle. Some anti-foam chemicals use 1 teaspoon for every 200 gallons of water while others instruct you to use just a few drops of chemical in the water.

  4. Step 4

Turn on the spa's circulation and turn off its aeration before adding the anti-foam chemical.

  5. Step 5

Add the suggested dose from Step 3 into the spa. Wait for the foam to dissipate. This time varies depending on size of the spa and type of anti-foam used.

  6. Step 6

Turn the spa's aeration back on and use the spa as you normally would.

  7. Step 7

Repeat the treatment as often as needed. Most spas require an anti-foam once every few months, depending on the climate and amount of use.
