Instructions

    • 1

Choose a piece of felt, flannel or another cotton fabric that coordinates with your baby's nursery. Cut two identical pieces that you will sew together to become the hanging sign. Make it any size and shape you'd like, but consider something manageable like a 4 by 4-inch square or a cloud that's 6-inches wide and 4-inches high.

    • 2

Adorn the top piece of fabric. Embroider a message like, "Shh...Baby's Sleeping," "Little Angel" or personalize it with the baby's name. You can also create a design with iron-on letters and images, fabric paint or pens or rubber stamps and solvent ink that won't bleed on the fabric. (See Resources)

    • 3

Place the 2 pieces of fabric face-to-face. Use a sewing machine or needle and thread to stitch the two together, leaving a 2-inch opening at the top.

    • 4

Turn the piece right-side out and fill it with pillow stuffing to the desired thickness.

    • 5

Cut a piece of coordinating ribbon that you'll use to hang the sign. Make it long enough so you can slip the sign over the doorknob easily when your baby is taking a nap.

    • 6

Use a needle and thread to sew the entire shape closed, stitching the ribbon ends into the piece as you go. Adorn the ribbon with small silk roses, butterflies or colorful ribbon ties, if desired.
