Instructions

    • 1

Trace your 4- to 5-inch wide star pattern on a piece of tracing paper with a pencil. Cut out the pattern for your template.

    • 2

Lay your template on the back of the fabric. Trace the template with a fabric pen. Trace two stars on the fabric for each completed star. Use as many fabrics and variations as you like. Once you trace the appropriate number of stars, cut the shapes out of the fabric.

    • 3

Place two fabric stars together. Keep the side with the tracing on the inside. Secure the stars together with a safety pin in the middle so they don't move while you're sewing.

    • 4

Sew the stars together with a running stitch. Hide the knot from the thread inside the ornament while keeping the stitches close to the edges of the stars. Leave one small side of the star open so you can stuff it later.

    • 5

Stuff the stars so the stuffing is in the firmly and smoothly. The star should look rounded in the middle. Once you finish stuffing, sew the last edge of the star.

    • 6

Create the hanging loop on the star. Choose a point for the top. Thread your needle through the top, near the stitching. Leave enough extra thread to create a large loop and bring the needle back through the star. Wrap your thread around the base of the loop several times and tie a knot. Bring the needle through the wrapped thread to hide the knot.

Tips & Warnings

  • To add a decorative finish to your stars, use embroidery floss to sew beads into them. Use small clusters of beads or larger patterns.
